Biochar and the systems perspective of biochar have gained a lot of attention during the past years due to its multiple benefits. Biochar has the potential to mitigate global warming in various ways, (in both the global and the local perspective) and is an existing Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) technology. In the political process and in the legislative work, biochar is debated and affects several regulatory processes.

Lately, a series of positive events have taken place within the EU. EU has according to its open definition of carbon removal and in line with the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) included biochar in the Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF). This represents a huge success for the recognition and scaling of carbon credits for biochar carbon removal (BCR) and a foundation for rapid scaling for the industry. Invited speakers for this webinar is Donata Chiari, Policy officer from the European Biochar Industry Consortium and Sebastian Manhart, Senior policy advisor from the Carbonfuture. They will guide us through an overview of EU policies related to biochar and will share insights in policy processes that are taking place currently. The webinar will also touch upon what we can expect for the coming years as biochar producers and users. This webinar is arranged by the Policy group within the cluster network Biochar Sweden.
